Vol. 566 No. 1

Written Answers. - Services for People with Disabilities.

Róisín Shortall

Question:

129 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Health and Children the plans there are to address the seriously substandard facilities in St. Ita's Hospital, Portrane, following the visit of the Minister of State; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11992/03]

My Department is currently awaiting submission of the stage 5 documentation from the Eastern Regional Health Authority in relation to the new bungalow complex for 60 persons in St Joseph's intellectual disability services on the grounds of the hospital campus.

The authority has also been given approval by my Department to proceed with the initial planning and design work in relation to a residential and day complex in Lusk for a further 30 persons. The Northern Area Health Board is working in partnership with Fingal County Council in relation to the provision of additional community based residential accommodation in north County Dublin.

In addition to the initiatives outlined above which are under way, the board's plans for St Joseph's services include the development of at least two further bungalow complexes, one of which will be located on the St Brendan's site.
