Vol. 566 No. 2

Written Answers. - Hospital Funding.

Denis Naughten

Question:

144 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will review the funding structure for the Western Health Board and Portiuncula Hospital, Ballinasloe, in view of the large catchment area serviced by the hospital which is outside the jurisdiction of the Western Health Board; if the attention of his Department has been drawn to this fact by management of the board; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12465/03]

The ownership and management of Portiuncula Hospital has now transferred to the Western Health Board and responsibility for both the management and funding of the hospital rests with the board. Therefore, its funding requirement forms part of the board's annual service plan. It is a matter for the Western Health Board to determine the level of funding required to provide services at the hospital.
