Question:

185 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will sanction finance for the allocation of more gardaí for Carlow town; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12442/03]

I am informed by the Garda authorities, who are responsible for the day to day allocation of resources, including personnel, that the personnel strength of Carlow Garda station as at 31 December each year for the past six years and currently is as follows:

These figures represent an increase of 12, or 30%, in the personnel allocated to Carlow Garda station since 31 December 1997.
I am further informed that the situation will be kept under review and when additional resources next become available, the needs of Carlow Garda station will be fully considered within the overall context of the needs of Garda stations throughout the country.
