Vol. 566 No. 2

Written Answers. - Housing Grants.

Phil Hogan

Question:

193 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government when a residence will be built for a person (details supplied) in County Carlow; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12459/03]

Carlow County Council submitted a proposal to my Department in August 2002 seeking approval to accept a tender for the construction of a rural house at Carrigmore, Bagenalstown. The council was informed on 26 November 2002 that it was not possible to give approval to the proposal given the high construction cost of the house and was requested to re-examine the design of the dwelling with the object of effecting savings on cost and to seek new tenders for the house.

The county council sought new tenders for the dwelling and a revised proposal was submitted to my Department on 24 February 2003 seeking approval to accept a tender. The associated drawing was recently received in the Department and a decision on the revised proposal will be conveyed to the county council shortly.
