Vol. 566 No. 2

Written Answers. - Work Permits.

Joe Sherlock

Question:

25 Mr. Sherlock asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the progress made to date in her consideration of the legal framework relating to the recruitment and employment of persons from outside the EU and EEA area; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [12286/03]

The Employment Permits Act 2003 became law in April. This Act provides for freedom of movement to work in Ireland, after EU Accession, by nationals of the accession states in May 2004.

Work is proceeding on the drafting of a more comprehensive Employment Permits Bill, the heads of which were approved by the Government in March 2002. It is my intention that the Bill will be published in the course of the current Dáil session.
