Vol. 566 No. 4

Written Answers. - Environmental Policy.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

249 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the extent to which his Department monitors the air pollution recordings from the various locations throughout the country; if his Department take initiatives on foot of such information; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13167/03]

I refer to the reply to Question No. 325 of 1 April 2003.

National policy for achieving air quality standards and emissions reductions is informed on an ongoing basis by the available air quality measurement data and interaction with the EPA and local authorities as appropriate. Air quality assessment is a matter for the agency and air quality management a matter for local authorities informed by air quality measurement data.
