Vol. 566 No. 4

Written Answers. - National Development Plan.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

250 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the current state of his Department's compliance with targets set in the national development plan; if there are any factors or features likely to impact on objectives or impede progress towards same; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13168/03]

I refer to the reply to Questions Nos. 318 and 319 of 1 April 2003.

This still represents the position in relation to my Department's compliance with the targets set out in the national development plan. The mid-term review of the national development plan may impact on the manner in which programmes are delivered. Subject to this, the achievement of targets under the NDP depends on Ireland maintaining its strong competitive position and economic growth. The Government is committed to providing the investment in public infrastructure that underpins competitiveness, as envisaged in the NDP. The Government's objectives in this regard remain the same and we shall continue to prioritise investment in capital infrastructure over the remaining years of the NDP.
