Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 21 and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Finian McGrath – the drugs crisis on the north side of Dublin and the urgent need for a plan to resolve this issue; (2) Deputy Healy – the urgent need for the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment to intervene in the continued lay-offs at John Ronan and Sons, Dudleys Mills, Clonmel; (3) Deputy Finneran – the anomaly which has arisen between the national car testing unit and the motor industry regarding changes in the national car testing programme; (4) Deputy Coveney – to ask the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources if he will increase the quantity of contracts to be awarded under the AER6 from 500MW to 750MW to ensure that Ireland achieves the target of the creation of 500MW of green energy by 2005. (5) Deputy Allen – the ever-increasing incidence of violence in urban areas, with particular reference to a serious fatal incident involving the death of a person (details supplied); (6) Deputy Kehoe – to ask the Minister for Health and Children to intervene with the Medical Council to ensure the registration of two junior doctors at Wexford General Hospital in the interest of patient care and for the people of County Wexford; (7) Deputy Joe Higgins – concern over the case of a young man, details supplied, found unconscious in Rathfarnham shortly after being released from Rathfarnham Garda station; (8) Deputy Neville – the Pollock report on the facilities provision at Our Lady's Hospital for Sick Children, Crumlin; (9) Deputy Hayes – the need for the Minister of State at the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform and the Department of Education and Science with special responsibility for children, Deputy Brian Lenihan, to say why he has failed to reach agreement with the teaching staff of St. Joseph's school, Ferryhouse, Clonmel, as if this matter is not resolved, strike action will be taken on Wednesday, 21 May causing severe disruption to everyone concerned; (10) Deputy Howlin – the serious implications for the people of Wexford of the proposed closure of the accident and emergency service at Wexford General Hospital arising from a dispute over the registration of non-consultant hospital doctors and the need for the Minister to take action to ensure the continuation of accident and emergency services at the hospital; (11) Deputy Costello – the provision of community-based services for the elderly, including the meals on wheels scheme in Dublin health administration area 7; (12) Deputy Hogan – the need for the Minister for Education and Science to retain full funding for the stay in school retention initiative at Coláiste Mhuire, Johnstown, County Kilkenny, until the completion of the programme in 2004-05. (13) Deputy Durkan – the subject matter and reply to Parliamentary Question No. 776 of 7 May 2003; (14) Deputy Shortall – the urgent need to upgrade the sub-standard accommodation at Beneavin De La Salle College, Finglas, Dublin 11; (15) Deputy Gogarty – the need to re-introduce money back bottles and introduce money back cans to reduce litter and therefore assist the promotion of Ireland as a clean destination; and (16) Deputy Morgan – to ask the Minister for the Environment and Local Government to address the findings of the study by the European Environmental Agency which found that Ireland's drinking water is among the most contaminated anywhere in Europe, that there is still a high level of microbiological contaminates in much of Ireland's drinking water, that Ireland is one of a few countries not to have taken action to deal with levels of nitrates in drinking water which are linked to cancer, and the action the Government intends to take to improve the quality of Ireland's drinking water.

The matters raised by Deputies Healy, Costello, Finneran and Durkan have been selected for discussion.
