Vol. 566 No. 4

Written Answers. - Intervention Products.

Mary Upton

Question:

183 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if intervention meat and dairy products will be made available to charities and voluntary organisations, to supplement their food supply for provision of meals for the elderly. [13191/03]

In accordance with Commission Regulation (EC) No. 3149/92 on the supply of food from intervention stocks for the benefit of the most deprived persons in the community and subject to the approval of the European Commission, supplies of butter and beef, when available in intervention storage, are made available to charitable organisations for distribution annually. Charitable organisations that benefit from the scheme include those providing assistance to the elderly.
