Vol. 566 No. 4

Written Answers. - CJD Prevention Measures.

Bernard Allen

Question:

209 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health and Children his plans to set up registers of paediatricians and endocrinologists whose patients received hormone treatments discontinued in 1985 due to a risk of CJD contraction. [13066/03]

My Department is examining this matter in consultation with the CJD advisory group. I should add that there is no known CJD risk associated with the products in question. However, it seems desirable to have a mechanism in place to enable the patients who received the products to be contacted in the event of a problem arising in the future. The Department is examining how best to achieve this.
