The following is an outline of investigative committees established by my Department over the last four years and a statement of the costs of their operations.

The Commission to Inquire into Child Abuse was set up on a statutory basis on 23 May 2000. The cost incurred to date of the commission is €9,011,922. The Residential Institutions Redress Board and Review Committee were established on a statutory basis on 16 December 2002 to enable victims of childhood abuse while in residential or institutional care to make applications for financial redress. The cost incurred to date by the Redress Board and Review Committee are €2,189,581. Two non-statutory inquiries were commissioned in relation to two staff members at young offender centres. The first has been completed while the other is ongoing and expected to be completed in the near future. The combined cost to date is €12,584.
