Vol. 567 No. 5

Written Answers. - Third Level Fees.

Finian McGrath

Question:

245 Mr. F. McGrath asked the Minister for Education and Science if finance raised by proposed third level fees will be invested in primary schools in disadvantaged areas. [14337/03]

Jackie Healy-Rae

Question:

246 Mr. Healy-Rae asked the Minister for Education and Science the position regarding the reintroduction of third level fees, in view of the fact that it is causing undue worries to students and their parents; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14365/03]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 245 and 246 together.

I refer the Deputies to my announcement of 25 May 2003 regarding a €42 million support package of measures for disadvantaged students in third-level education, a copy of which is attached. Under the terms of the package, it is not proposed to reintroduce tuition fees.
