Vol. 567 No. 5

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Jan O'Sullivan

Question:

250 Ms O'Sullivan asked the Minister for Education and Science when he will award the ?3,800 lump sum part of the minor works grant to primary schools; if the review of the grant has been completed by his Department; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14502/03]

The position regarding the grant scheme for minor works is set out in the 2003 school building programme published in January. The programme shows clearly that €18.1 million has been provided for the payment of the full grant in 2003, €12.5 million for payment of the standard grant of €3,809 to each school and €5.6 million for payment of the per capita element at €12.70 per pupil.

An expenditure review of the scheme, involving up to 300 schools, is currently under way. Its purpose is to review the use, by schools, of funds provided under this scheme and to adjust the scheme in line with any recommendations that arise from the review.
