Vol. 567 No. 5

Suspension of Member.

I move:

That Deputy Timmins be suspended from the service of the Dáil.

Is the motion opposed?

On a point of order.

There can be no point of order while the Chair is dealing with a point of disorder. Is the motion being opposed?

Question put and agreed to.

On a point of order.

Under Standing Order 61, any division is postponed until immediately before the Order of Business the next sitting day. The Deputy must now leave the House.

I have asked the Ceann Comhairle to accept a point of order.

Point of order.

Deputy Timmins raised a question with the Taoiseach which he also raised last week.

He raised it the week before too.

Yes, he has repeatedly asked whether the Taoiseach will devote some Government time to debate a serious issue which is of concern to Deputy Timmins and a number—

The Chair has ruled on disobedience.

If the Chair is denying me a point of order—

The Chair cannot function if Members do not obey its rulings. Deputy Timmins, do you intend to leave the House?

Will the Chair allow me to make my point of order?

I am dealing with Deputy Timmins. I will return to Deputy Durkan's point of order.

The Chair will not allow me to finish making my point of order.

The Chair has ruled on disorder in the House.

The Chair interrupted me and I did not finish making my point of order.

If the Deputy does not resume his seat, the sitting will have to be suspended to allow Deputy Timmins to leave.

Will the Chair allow me at least to finish making my point of order?

On a point of order—

The House stands suspended for five minutes to allow Deputy Timmins to leave the Chamber.

Sitting suspended at 5 p.m. and resumed at 5.05 p.m.
