Vol. 567 No. 5

Written Answers. - Remembrance Fund.

Enda Kenny

Question:

367 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if any of the Estimates for a Remembrance Commission Fund have been spent; if not, when this expenditure is likely to occur; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14549/03]

As the Deputy will be aware, €3 million has been provided in this year's Revised Estimates in relation to the establishment of a commission to administer a fund, to be known as the Remembrance Fund, for the victims in this jurisdiction of the conflict in Northern Ireland. None of that allocation has been spent to date.

I am currently giving urgent consideration to various options to advance the establishment of a commission and I hope to be in a position to bring these proposals to Government in a matter of weeks. In advance of this, it is not possible to say when funds will begin to be disbursed from the allocation.
