Vol. 567 No. 5

Written Answers. - Deportation Orders.

John Perry

Question:

382 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if a stay of execution will be granted for a person (details supplied) in County Sligo in view of the details submitted; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14347/03]

Deportation orders in respect of the persons referred to by the Deputy were issued on 31 March, 2003. Their cases were assessed by my officials in January 2003, taking into account all documents and representations on the files, and submitted to me with a recommendation for deportation.

The persons referred to were required to attend at Ballymote Garda Station on 15 May 2003 in order to make arrangements for their deportation from the State. On arrival at the Garda station they presented evidence concerning a pending medical appointment at Galway University Hospital. In consideration of this, they were given another appointment to attend the station on 6 June 2003.
The medical issue in this case formed part of the representations which were fully considered by me prior to the signing of the deportation orders. Further representations regarding this issue were received in my Department on 22 May 2003. They do not contain any substantially new information on the case and the deportation orders stand. It is an operational matter for the Garda National Immigration Bureau to arrange the removal of the persons from the State.
