Vol. 567 No. 5

Written Answers. - Departmental Programmes.

Thomas P. Broughan

Question:

112 Mr. Broughan asked the Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs the progress made to date with regard to the village enhancement scheme under the CLÁR programme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14371/03]

The CLÁR village enhancement scheme, which I introduced in April 2002, is co-funded equally by the Leader groups, with a community contribution, CLÁR and the local authorities.

The types of works covered include environmental works, heritage works, car parks and childrens playgrounds. Projects complement rather than overlap with projects funded under the EU co-financed urban and village renewal measure.

The maximum cost of each project is set at €30,000. In the event of projects costing more than €30,000, it would be up to the local authority to provide the supplementary funding required if the projects were to proceed.

The CLÁR expenditure in 2002 was €0.413 million.

For 2003, €780,000 has been allocated by CLÁR to the scheme and will be matched 2:1 from other sources and the same terms and conditions in relation to co-funding and the type of projects covered will apply. Projects such as inland islands, river walks, floodlighting etc. in the CLÁR areas, may also, be considered within the terms of the scheme.

Question No. 113 answered with Question No. 106.
