Vol. 567 No. 5

Written Answers. - Community Development.

Eamon Ryan

Question:

123 Mr. Eamon Ryan asked the Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs his Department's views on the recent statement by the chief executive of Clann Credo on the measures that Irish banking should adopt in relation to funding community projects in its practices, and if necessary through new legislation. [14427/03]

I am very interested in the work of Clann Credo and recently addressed its annual conference in March. At that conference, it was proposed that an agreed portion of the savings accruing to the banks, as a result of the reduction in corporation tax, should be diverted to social investment projects.

This would appear to require new legislation and is a matter appropriate to be pursued with my colleague the Minister for Finance.

Question No. 124 answered with Question No. 88.
