Vol. 567 No. 5

Written Answers. - Apprenticeship Scheme.

Michael Ring

Question:

163 Mr. Ring asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the guidelines in place in respect of apprenticeships for electricians, carpenters and so on; the pay structures for somebody commencing an apprenticeship course for their first, second and third years of employment; and the legal basis in relation to this. [14364/03]

The apprenticeship scheme is operated by FÁS under the provisions of the statutory apprenticeship rules – S.I. No. 168 of 1997 – which gives the scheme its legal basis. The questions raised by the Deputy regarding guidelines and the pay structures relate to the day to day administration of the scheme, which is the responsibility of FÁS.
