Vol. 567 No. 6

Written Answers. - Departmental Expenditure.

Dan Boyle

Question:

185 Mr. Boyle asked the Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism his views on whether his Department's share of the more than ?10 million spent by Government Departments in 2002 on public relations, marketing and advertising represents best value for money; and the plans which exist to reduce spending in this area. [14671/03]

Following the establishment of my Department on 18 June 2002, a sum of €265,867 was spent in 2002 on public relations, marketing and advertising, of which €175,308, 66%, related to the cultural institutions in respect of the promotion of their programmes and activities.

My Department has systems in place to ensure that the best value for money is secured for such expenditures and, in keeping with good practice, these systems are kept under continuous review.
