Vol. 567 No. 6

Written Answers. - Sports Funding.

Jack Wall

Question:

194 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism if he has had meetings with the community games administration in regard to the provision of a permanent home for the games; if so, the result of such meetings; the position in regard to such a provision; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14914/03]

The question of provision of venues for sports events is a matter in the first instance for the organisation concerned. Notwithstanding this, I have met with representatives of the National Community Games on a number of occasions to discuss with them the question of a permanent location for holding the finals of the National Community Games in the future. I understand from the organisation that they are considering a number of options for a venue for the games and their consideration of this matter will take some time to complete.

If there are any proposals in relation to a permanent home for the games, I would be glad to arrange for officials of my Department to discuss the issues involved with representatives of the community games organisation.
