Vol. 567 No. 6

Written Answers. - Orthodontic Service.

Ned O'Keeffe

Question:

204 Mr. N. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Health and Children if a person (details supplied) in County Cork will be called to complete orthodontic treatment; and if grant aid is available to parents who have to pay for private orthodontic treatment. [14890/03]

Responsibility for the provision of orthodontic treatment to eligible persons in County Cork rests with the Southern Health Board. My Department has asked the chief executive officer to investigate the matter raised by the Deputy and to reply to him directly. There is currently no mechanism for reimbursing costs of orthodontic treatment received independent of health boards. However, tax relief is available in respect of such treatment costs.
