Vol. 567 No. 6

Written Answers. - Departmental Expenditure.

Dan Boyle

Question:

213 Mr. Boyle asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform his views on whether his Department's share of the more than ?10 million spent by Government Departments in 2002 on public relations, marketing and advertising represents best value for money; and the plans which exist to reduce spending in this area. [14671/03]

I refer the Deputy to my replies to Parliamentary Questions Nos. 312 and 314 of 12 February 2003 on this matter.

The Deputy should be aware that the expenditure concerned related mainly to costs associated with raising public awareness on a wide range of important issues for which my Department is responsible, such as campaigns on equality, disability, anti-racism, violence against women and date rape.

Such advertising and awareness campaigns are conducted on the basis of identified need and as such there are no plans to reduce any expenditure considered necessary in this regard.
