Vol. 567 No. 6

Written Answers. - Flood Relief.

Denis Naughten

Question:

136 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Finance the progress which he has made to date in relation to flood relief measures in the Shannon basin; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14556/03]

I received a report from the Commissioners of Public Works on the Shannon flooding problem in January of this year. After consideration of this report and discussions with the IFA, I asked the Office of Public Works to carry out a pre-feasibility study into possible flood relief measures on the River Shannon. This process is currently under way. The report will take approximately nine to ten months to complete and will involve consultation with affected land owners and other interested parties.
