Vol. 567 No. 7

Written Answers. - Health Centres.

Michael Ring

Question:

197 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Health and Children the reason the Achill Sound health centre in County Mayo has not opened despite having being finally completed in September 2002; and when this facility will be operational. [15008/03]

The provision of health centres to meet the needs of local communities and the maintenance and upgrading of such centres within its functional area is a matter for the relevant health board or the Eastern Regional Health Authority. In the case of Achill Sound health centre, this responsibility rests with the Western Health Board. The Western Health Board has advised me that the legal transfer of the property from Mayo County Council to the Western Health Board has been with the solicitors representing both parties for some time and has only now been agreed. The documentation will now be forwarded to be signed and sealed by the board. The Western Health Board expects to be in ownership of the building within the next two weeks and at that stage relevant staff will be in a position to move into the building.
