Vol. 567 No. 7

Written Answers. - Visa Applications.

Seymour Crawford

Question:

76 Mr. Crawford asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if he has had discussions with the US State Department regarding the current backlog in the processing of US JI visa applications; if discussions were held, the outcome thereof; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14879/03]

I am aware that there have been difficulties in processing US J1 visa applications this year. On my instructions, the Irish Embassy in Washington has had discussions with the US State Department, which has indicated that it wishes to be as helpful as possible in dealing with this backlog.

Arising from this, I understand that the US Embassy here in Dublin is working with USIT towards a manageable plan to cope with the backlog as quickly as possible.
