Vol. 567 No. 7

Written Answers. - UN Population Fund.

Gerard Murphy

Question:

84 Mr. Murphy asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs the status of Ireland's contribution to the United Nations Population Fund; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14866/03]

Ireland has just completed its first cycle of non-binding indicative multi-annual commitments in respect of the UNPF, one of its key UN agency partners. Ireland contributed €2.54 million to the fund's core resources in 2003, €1.841 million in 2002 and €1.27 million in 2001.

In line with our overall policy of support for the Secretary General's reform process, Ireland will continue to make further such multi-annual funding commitments to our most important UN partners in an effort to ensure more predictable levels of funding for these agencies. The level of our commitment to UNFPA for the next three year cycle is currently under consideration.
