Vol. 567 No. 7

Written Answers. - Overseas Development Aid.

Joe Sherlock

Question:

88 Mr. Sherlock asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if the proposals on debt cancellation contained in the documents produced by his Department have the support of the Government; if so, his views on the failure to state such views on debt cancellation as to the position of Ireland at meetings of the Bretton Woods institutions; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14769/03]

I refer the Deputy to the reply to Parliamentary Question No. 200 given by my colleague, the Minister for Finance, on 3 December 2002, which sought his views on the debt strategy. His reply made it clear that the strategy enjoys his full support. He also stated that his Department and Ireland Aid have been promoting the strategy in all relevant international fora, including the Bretton Woods institutions, and will continue to do so.
