Vol. 568 No. 5

Written Answers. - Groceries Order.

John McGuinness

Question:

165 Mr. McGuinness asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment if, when considering if action in relation to the Groceries Order 1987 is necessary or desirable, she will consult with all interested groups and take note of the report laid before the Houses of the Oireachtas by the Joint Committee on Enterprise and Small Business during the last Dáil session; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [16732/03]

I am currently considering what action, if any, is appropriate regarding the Groceries Order. My deliberations in this regard may involve a formal consultation process with interested parties. However, since I announced that I was considering the status of the order, I have received a significant amount of correspondence in the matter. I have also met with some of the interested groups and individuals seeking retention of the order. In determining what course of action to adopt, I will take note of the views of all interested parties and the report laid before the Houses of the Oireachtas by the Joint Committee on Enterprise and Small Business.
