Vol. 569 No. 4

Written Answers. - Animal Feedstuffs.

Martin Ferris

Question:

161 Mr. Ferris asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the measures his Department is proposing to take to prevent the use of DDT-treated Ukrainian grain which is being imported through Northern Ireland and is being used by animal meal producers in this State. [17873/03]

I do not have evidence that Ukrainian grain treated with DDT is being used in animal feed in Ireland. There are adequate provisions in the legislation governing animal feedingstuffs to deal with such cases if they arise. My Departments animal feed inspection programme under this legislation is risk based and I am satisfied that it is adequate to protect the feed chain.
