Vol. 569 No. 4

Written Answers. - Irish Language.

Jack Wall

Question:

182 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs the funding provided to organisations in regard to the development of the Irish language by same either directly or indirectly by his Department; the policy, in bilingual format, of the organisations for which the funding was provided; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18000/03]

The Department of Foreign Affairs does not provide funding to organisations in regard to the development of the Irish language. However, the Deputy may wish to note that, in the context of its book donation programme, the Department of Foreign Affairs provides books, including books in the Irish language, to a number of academic institutions and cultural organisations around the world. The most recent examples of donations of Irish language books are to the Deutsch-Irische Gesellschaft Rhein-Main and to the Celtic Studies Faculty of the Humboldt University in Berlin.
