Vol. 569 No. 4

Written Answers. - Hospital Staffing.

John Bruton

Question:

209 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Health and Children if additional staff have been provided at St. Mary's in Drumcar, to alleviate the problems of night-time care for patients; the action the health board has taken regarding the provision of additional staff; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17876/03]

As a result of discussions which took place earlier this year between my Department, the North-Eastern Health Board and the St. John of God Order, agreement was reached to enable the order to proceed with the immediate recruitment of 30 additional staff. This was intended to address the priority issues identified in the consultant's report around quality of care and health and safety. The recruitment of the staff is a matter for the order.
