Vol. 569 No. 4

Written Answers. - Adoption Service.

Brendan Howlin

Question:

215 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for Health and Children if his attention has been drawn to the requirements on South-Eastern Health Board adoption questionnaires to list a minister for religion as one of the referees required of a potential adoptive parent; his views on this requirement; if this requirement conforms with Irish law and the Constitution and obligations under the European Convention on Human Rights; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17941/03]

Applications for intercountry adoption and domestic adoption are processed by health boards under the Adoption Acts 1952 to 1998. The makeup of the adoption questionnaire used by a health board is a matter for its adoption service.
