Written Answers. - Hospital Services.

Jerry Cowley

Question:

235 Dr. Cowley asked the Minister for Health and Children if his attention has been drawn to the situation pertaining at the Mayo General Hospital whereby, due to the failure to replace essential endoscopy equipment, essential machine investigations are held up; the reason this essential equipment has not been replaced, despite an application being made almost six months ago; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18017/03]

My Department received an application from the Western Health Board to fund endoscopy equipment at Mayo General Hospital. This application is being considered in the context of a general review of the national development plan for all health boards. My Department will continue to liaise closely with the Western Health Board on its overall capital needs and priorities.

Paul McGrath

Question:

236 Mr. P. McGrath asked the Minister for Health and Children if equipment for measuring bone density has been installed at Mullingar General Hospital; the date of this installation; the total cost of this piece of equipment; the monthly through-put of patients using this machine since it was installed; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18018/03]

Services at the Midland Regional Hospital at Mullingar are the responsibility of the Midland Health Board and my Department has asked the chief executive officer of the board to examine this issue and to reply to the Deputy directly.
