Vol. 569 No. 4

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

John McGuinness

Question:

268 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for the Environment Heritage and Local Government if his attention has been drawn to the fact that workers in Kells Priory have been without toilet facilities for two weeks and that there is no drinking water on the site; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the toilets are being serviced from Clonmel rather than Kilkenny; if he will investigate the matter and ensure that proper facilities are installed without delay and establish the reason this work is not being done from Kilkenny; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17947/03]

Toilet facilities were provided at Kells Priory as a temporary measure prior to the installation of facilities that would comply with the health and safety legislation. The unit was last serviced on Wednesday 18 June and is usually serviced on a weekly basis in accordance with the contract for service. On one occasion, the contractor could not service the facility due to access difficulties, but this matter has been addressed. The contract for these temporary toilets was awarded to the lowest tender following the approved tender process. Temporary arrangements are also in place regarding drinking water prior to the connection of a water supply to the sub-depot by Kilkenny County Council.
