Vol. 569 No. 4

Written Answers. - Departmental Surveys.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

295 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs if the latest census figures have been studied by his Department with a view to addressing implications raised; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18114/03]

The Deputy will be aware that my Department was established last year with a clear mandate to produce a more co-ordinated engagement by the State with communities around the country as they pursue their own development. The Deputy will also be aware from replies to previous questions of the range and nature of schemes within the remit of the Department.

Data such as that included in the census figures published last week will be of significant value to my Department in supporting the development and implementation of policy initiatives across the range of the Department's activities.
