Vol. 570 No. 2

Written Answers. - Strategic Management Initiative.

Richard Bruton

Question:

214 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the key indicators of input, output, outcome and performance which his Department monitors as part of the strategic management initiative; and the trend in these indicators in each year since 1997. [18687/03]

My Department has published four statements of strategy since 1996. Each statement has, in common with the overall strategic management initiative approach, progressed and become more detailed in terms of guidelines, consultation and analysis and this is reflected in the changes in the goals, strategies and performance indicators over time. Many of these performance indicators are qualitative rather than quantitative.

The current statement of strategy for the period 2003 to 2005 has 75 strategies and in excess of 200 performance indicators, which is a reflection of the level and complexity of the Department's work. Monitoring of progress by the Department in implementing these strategies and the targets set by the performance indicators is carried out through the ongoing business planning process and in the Department's annual report.
