Question:

363 Ms O. Mitchell asked the Minister for Health and Children the status of an appeal by a person (details supplied) in Dublin 16 who was refused a medical card. [18322/03]

The determination of the eligibility of applicants for medical cards is, by legislation, the responsibility of the chief executive officer of the relevant health board or authority. Accordingly, this case has been referred to the regional chief executive of the Eastern Regional Health Authority for investigation and direct reply to the Deputy.

Question:

364 Mr. Gormley asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will consider extending the medical card regulations to cover special mattresses to alleviate pressure sores for patients for whom such mattresses are a necessity; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18371/03]

Responsibility for the provision of services, including aids and appliances, for medical card holders is, by legislation, a matter for the chief executive officer of the relevant health board.
