Written Answers. - Medical Cards.

John Cregan

Question:

390 Mr. Cregan asked the Minister for Health and Children the situation in relation to a person who complains of discrimination in that they are only allowed earn a limited amount of ?88 per week while their spouse who is on unemployment assistance can still claim for them as an adult dependant; and if the rules can be clarified. [18401/03]

Responsibility for the provision of a medical card is, by legislation, a matter for the chief executive officer of the relevant health board or authority. My Department has asked the regional chief executive of the Eastern Regional Health Authority to investigate the matter raised by the Deputy and to reply to him directly.
