Question:

531 Mr. Nolan asked the Minister for the Environment Heritage and Local Government the amount of funding received from the European Union towards the cost of the road network for each of the past five years. [18412/03]

The following table gives details of total grant payments from 1999 to 2002 and allocations for 2003, by my Department, in respect of non-national roads, for which my Department is responsible, including details of EU co-financed specific improvement grants for non-national roads.

Receipts for EU co-funded schemes are paid directly to the Department of Finance. EU funding is generally available at a maximum rate of 75% and 50% in relation to the BMW and SE regions respectively, subject to compliance with scheme criteria.
