Vol. 570 No. 2

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Eamon Gilmore

Question:

536 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for the Environment Heritage and Local Government the plans in place to improve the sewage facilities in the village of Ballingeary, County Cork; and when it is expected that work will proceed. [18532/03]

Gerard Murphy

Question:

541 Mr. Murphy asked the Minister for the Environment Heritage and Local Government if officials will facilitate the request (details supplied) from Ballingeary coiste forbartha/development committee, Ballingeary, County Cork. [18558/03]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 536 and 541 together.

The Ballingeary sewerage scheme was eleventh in the list of sewerage schemes submitted by Cork County Council for its southern division in response to my Department's request to local authorities to undertake fresh assessments of the needs for capital works in their areas and to prioritise their proposals on the basis of the assessments. The priority lists were taken into account in the framing of my Department's Water Services Investment Programme 2002-2004. Given the priority afforded to the scheme by the council and the level of competing demand, it has not been possible to include the scheme in the programme.
