Question:

191 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education and Science if a person (details supplied) in County Kildare whose child has special needs can receive financial assistance towards pre-school costs. [19106/03]

My Department wrote to the parents of the child referred to by the Deputy recently seeking additional information that will assist in determining the child's educational needs. When this is received and considered, a response will issue to the parents.

Question:

192 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science the assessment which has been carried out by his Department into the possibility of opening a special class for children in the autistic spectrum at a location (details supplied) in Dublin 11. [19143/03]

My Department has received an application from the school referred to by the Deputy to establish a special class to cater for children on the autistic spectrum. The application is currently being considered and a response will be issued to the school as quickly as possible.
