Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 21 and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Upton – the failure of the Garda to respond to the concerns of an elderly lady (details supplied) who was wrongly accused of shoplifting; (2) Deputy Naughten – the need for the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment to provide funding for FÁS in the western region to prevent the cessation of the national supported employment programme on 31 July; (3) Deputy Allen – the loss of over 100 jobs at the Flextronic Plant, Dublin Hill, Cork; (4) Deputy Seán Ryan – the urgent need for the Minister to respond favourably to the request from parents of second level students in Donabate-Portrane, County Dublin, for a bus service to the post-primary schools in Malahide, Portmarnock and Baldoyle, County Dublin; (5) Deputy Crowe – the ongoing serious crisis in accommodation and facilities in Scoil Treasa, Ballycullen Avenue, Firhouse; (6) Deputy Finian McGrath – the case of the "Miami Five", the five Cubans who tried to stop Miami-based groups carrying out violent actions against the people of Cuba and the need for international support for their case; (7) Deputy Crawford – to urge the Minister for Health and Children to take immediate steps to have Monaghan General Hospital put back on call as this is the first anniversary of the hospital being taken off call; (8) Deputy English – to ask the Tánaiste to establish a task force immediately for Navan, County Meath, in view of the latest announcement that 230 jobs are to go in the Navan Carpets factory; (9) Deputy Ó Snodaigh – the need for the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform to meet the Garda Commissioner to agree measures to ensure that existing community policing fora have the confidence of community groups and to address the perceived failure of the Garda to stem or reduce anti-social behaviour, drug dealing and car theft in areas where these policing fora are in existence, such as Rialto and the south inner city; (10) Deputy Burton – the serious consequences for the principle of freedom of information of the series of charges announced by the Minister for Finance for applications or appeals under the Freedom of Information Act and the strong criticism of the charges made by the Information Commissioner; (11) Deputy Ferris – the urgent need to discuss the failure of the Government to establish a radiotherapy unit at Waterford Regional Hospital; (12) Deputy Ó Caoláin – the need for the Minister for Finance to ensure that funds earmarked for Ireland under the EU's Peace II programme are fully accessed by the county council task forces in the six southern Border counties and the local strategy partnerships in the North, and that any delays or obstacles to accessing these funds are removed as a matter of urgency; (13) Deputy Morgan – the need for the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment to address the recent job losses in the Louth-Meath area, specifically the loss of 230 jobs at Navan Carpets and the loss of 16 jobs at Laserform in Drogheda; (14) Deputy Gogarty – the need to provide measures to counteract the effect of cutbacks in CE schemes in the north Clondalkin area and other parts of Dublin mid-west, or else reverse the cutbacks; (15) Deputy Hayes – the urgent need for the Minister for Education and Science to sanction the necessary funding for the refurbishment of St Ailbe's school in Tipperary; (16) Deputies Paul McGrath and Penrose – the recent announcement of the closure of Powerscreen in Kilbeggan, County Westmeath, with the loss of 118 jobs and the need for the Tánaiste to establish a task force to find replacement jobs for this area; (17) Deputy Broughan – the urgent need to provide core funding for the TARGET community development group in Donaghmede, Dublin 13; and (18) Deputy O'Sullivan – the need for the Defence Forces to hold a full inquiry into the circumstances of the killing of Able Seaman Brian Gorey aboard the LE Eithne in April 2001 and the need for a full review of the rules of behaviour for personnel and supervisory systems aboard vessels in light of matters disclosed during the recent trial arising from his death.

The matters raised by Deputies English, McGrath and Penrose, Morgan and Upton have been selected for discussion.
