59 Mr. Wall asked the Taoiseach the number of tourists who have visited Ireland since 1 January 2003; the way in which this compares with the same period in 2002; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16133/03]

The first quarter 2003 tourism and travel release was published by the CSO on 12 June.

It is estimated that there were 500,000 overseas visits to Ireland for reason of holiday, leisure and recreation in the first three months of 2003.

This compares with 485,000 visits in the same period of 2002, representing an increase of 3.1%.
