Vol. 570 No. 4

Written Answers. - Health Board Services.

Róisín Shortall

Question:

266 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Health and Children the reasons for the opening of a training unit for pupils who were at the centre of a Garda investigation into alleged abuse at St. Vincent's Special School at Lisnagry in 1997; if the unit was opened on the basis of claims made against a person (details supplied); if so, his views on whether this is an action which may have prejudiced this person's right to the presumption of innocence; the basis on which this unit continues to operate following the acquittal of this person; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19312/03]

Responsibility for the provision of services to persons with an intellectual disability and those with autism in the Limerick area is a matter for the Mid-Western Health Board. My Department has, therefore, asked the chief executive officer of the board to investigate the matter and reply directly to the Deputy.
