Vol. 570 No. 4

Written Answers. - Child Care Services.

Paddy McHugh

Question:

337 Mr. McHugh asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if a grant will be paid to Tuam Resource Centre for the construction of a child care facility at Tuam, County Galway, as per an application; when the grant will be paid; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19479/03]

A capital grant application was received from the group on 20 December 2002.

All applications for grant assistance undergo a thorough assessment and appraisal process by Area Development Management Limited to ensure they meet the objectives of the equal opportunities childcare programme 2000 – 2006. Large scale capital applications seeking grant assistance exceeding €400,000 are referred for a thorough external evaluation by a building specialist.

ADM Limited has requested and is awaiting outstanding information from the group in question, in order for the appraisal process to continue. Once this information is submitted, it will be assessed by the building specialist and ADM Limited. On completion of this process, the assessment will be referred to the programme appraisal committee, chaired by my Department, for a recommendation before I make a final decision on the application.
