Vol. 570 No. 4

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefits.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

364 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Social and Family Affairs the reason the one parent family allowance has been terminated in the case of a person (details supplied) in County Kildare; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [19470/03]

There is a statutory obligation on all claimants to satisfy, and continue to satisfy, the conditions for entitlement to the payment.

As part of a general review conducted by a local officer of the Department in this case, the person concerned was requested to provide financial details regarding her means. Despite numerous requests by officers of the Department, the documentation requested has not been provided. Therefore, a stop has been placed on her payment. On receipt of the necessary documentation, a decision will be made as to her continued entitlement and she will be notified of the outcome.

Under social welfare legislation decisions in relation to claims must be made by deciding officers and appeals officers. These officers are statutorily appointed and I have no role in making such decisions.
