Vol. 570 No. 4

Written Answers. - Ministerial Appointments.

Kathleen Lynch

Question:

25 Ms Lynch asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the number of women he has appointed to State boards and agencies under the auspices of his Department since 17 May 2002; the reason the number of women appointed is so low; if he is meeting the Government's targets in this regard; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19022/03]

Since 17 May 2002, four women have been appointed to boards which come under the auspices of my Department. Most of the appointments to State bodies operating under the aegis of my Department are made on the basis of nominations received from the relevant industry groups. While every attempt is made to meet the Government's targets in this area, my discretion is limited arising from the requirement to invite nominees and account must also be taken of the specific technical expertise of the individuals concerned.
