Vol. 570 No. 4

Written Answers. - Medicinal Products.

Dinny McGinley

Question:

40 Mr. McGinley asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food when his new proposals on intramammaries will be published; the details of his proposals; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18925/03]

My Department has been engaged in considering how best to give effect to the recommendations from the Irish Medicines Board that intramammary antibiotic medicines should be brought under prescription control. I recognise that this exercise has been ongoing for some time. However, in the context of considering the IMB report, it has been necessary to carry out a wide ranging review of the existing control regime, the fundamentals of which have been in place for almost a decade at this stage. It has also been necessary as part of this process to consult widely with interested parties. The review process is now at very advanced stage and I can assure the Deputy that it is my intention to finalise this process at the earliest possible date.
