Vol. 571 No. 1

Written Answers. - Valuation of Property.

John Perry

Question:

368 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Finance if his attention has been drawn to the circumstances encountered by a person (details supplied) in County Sligo; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20356/03]

I understand that the type of facility referred to in the details supplied is regarded as being a commercial enterprise and is not exempt from being rated under schedule 4 of the Valuation Act 2001. The property in question was listed for valuation by the local authority and the Commissioner of Valuation is therefore obliged to value that property. I understand that the valuation of the property in question is not yet complete. The occupier of the property will have an opportunity to comment on the valuation before it is complete. There are also further appeals mechanisms whereby interested parties can appeal to the Commissioner and subsequently to the valuation tribunal and the courts in relation to valuations.
